Description
We are seeking a Backend Engineer based in Kuala Lumpur to design, build, and support scalable backend services and enterprise data integrations. The successful candidate will bring at least three years of professional experience in backend development, data integration, or a closely related engineering role. You will develop robust REST APIs and server-side applications using Python and FastAPI. You will also create, maintain, and optimize ETL workflows and data pipelines using Apache NiFi and related integration technologies. The role involves integrating multiple systems, applications, and data sources while ensuring data accuracy, security, reliability, and performance. You will work extensively with SQL, relational databases, and Linux-based environments to deliver production-ready solutions. You will troubleshoot production incidents, identify root causes, implement durable fixes, and improve system observability and operational resilience. You will collaborate with product, infrastructure, data, and engineering stakeholders while taking ownership of backend components throughout their lifecycle. Experience with Java, Oracle, Hadoop, messaging platforms, automated testing, cloud services, or containerized deployments will enable you to contribute across a broader range of projects.
Requirements
1. At least 3 years of professional experience in backend development, enterprise data integration, or a closely related software engineering role.
2. Strong hands-on proficiency in Python and experience developing production backend services with FastAPI or a comparable Python web framework.
3. Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining REST APIs and server-side integrations.
4. Practical experience with Apache NiFi, ETL processes, data pipelines, or enterprise data workflow orchestration.
5. Strong SQL skills and experience designing queries, schemas, or integrations for relational database systems.
6. Experience integrating multiple applications, systems, APIs, databases, or heterogeneous data sources.
7. Ability to troubleshoot production backend and data pipeline issues in Linux-based environments using logs, metrics, and root-cause analysis.
8. Proven ability to design scalable, reliable, maintainable, and testable backend components and take ownership throughout their lifecycle.
Desirable
1. Experience developing backend or integration components in Java.
2. Experience with Oracle databases, Hadoop, or other enterprise data platforms.
3. Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, or enterprise message queues.
4. Experience implementing automated unit, integration, API, or data pipeline tests.
5. Experience deploying services through cloud platforms, Docker, Kubernetes, or other containerized environments.
